Part of the cultural orthodox heritage, Nestinarstvo (Dance on embers) is a Bulgarian ritual with the aim of making up for the sins by bringing well-being, fecondity and healing. Today, it has been transformed into a touristic attraction. During an artistic residency on the site of the Heidenkirche (67), I gathered the required elements : I turned wood into charcoal during a nocturnal vigil, I sculpted the bowl and I undertook the laser engraving of the icon. I wanted to show the necessity to experience the ritual, to believe and maintain an heritage, a culture, while signifying the desacralisation and the commercial reproduction of this custom today. The installation is never activated, my creation process became the ritual itself. Placed in the exposition space, Nestinarstvo is frozen, out of time, at the time impenetrable space and object of entertainment.
